Hilary laat in een interview met Entertainment Weekly weten hoe haar Tinder dates haar nieuwe muzieclip voor ‘Sparks’ heeft beinvloed!

“It is like a fun game! Obviously, there was a ton of laughter involved. I mean we all sounded like hyena’s around the phone just like, ‘Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!’ You know? It was super entertaining but I realized that it’s also a very normal way to do things now,” Hilary Duff laughs, discussing signing up for Tinder and how the experience became the premise for her “Sparks” music video, which debuted Thursday.

“I thought it would be really cool to capture me doing something totally normal that a ton of people do and include it in the video—it’s two parts of my life that are meshing together,” she continued, “And [it] seemed challenging for me—I was like, ‘Am I really going to go on a date with someone I’ve never met before or heard about?’ I wanted to know what it was like and if sparks really do happen. The theme of my song is sparks. It’s about finding that with someone and then hanging onto it.”

It’s been seven years since Duff’s last collection, Dignity, and the time isn’t lost on her. “It took me a very long time to figure out the direction I wanted to go,” she says. But the new material – the name of which she can now reveal as Breathe In. Breathe Out. – has left her feeling pretty good. “I’m just proud. I’ve been driving around, listening to my record in my car and picking what order they go in. I’m so excited.”

And as for the title, Duff says it holds some personal meaning to her. “It’s the title of a track on the album that I did with Matthew Koma, and it stuck with me,” she says. “Over the past few years of my life it’s just been something that really helped me—just taking a deep breath in and letting a deep breath out. It can be a good thing, it can be a struggle, it can be a power thing—it’s just a good reminder for everyone to remember to do that. It’s a relief.”

Breathe In. Breathe Out., Duff’s fifth studio full-length, is due out on June 16 via RCA Records, and features collaborations with Tove Lo, Ed Sheeran, Matthew Koma and Bloodshy.
