De cast van ‘How I Met Your Father’ heeft in een video aangekondigd dat het eerste seizoen van 18 januari 2022 te zien zal zijn op de streamingsdienst Hulu.

Kim Cattrall gaat de hoofdrol spelen in een reboot van de serie How I Met Your Mother. De serie die Hulu volgend jaar uitbrengt, gaat How I Met Your Father heten.

De Sex and the City-actrice speelt de rol van Sophie, zoals die er in de toekomst uit komt te zien. De Sophie in het heden wordt gespeeld door Hilary Duff.

De opzet van het plot lijkt op dat van How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014). Sophie vertelt haar zoon hoe ze zijn vader heeft ontmoet. Het origineel draaide om Ted die in het jaar 2030 zijn kinderen vertelde over gebeurtenissen die uiteindelijk leidden tot zijn ontmoeting met hun moeder. Zijn zoektocht begon in het jaar 2005.

In de serie wordt Sophie omringd door een groep vrienden, die zich bezighouden met het uitzoeken wie ze zijn, wat ze willen van het leven en hoe ze verliefd kunnen worden in het tijdperk van datingapps en onbeperkte mogelijkheden.

Naast Cattrall en Duff zullen ook Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran en Suraj Sharma te zien zijn in de serie. Het seizoen telt tien afleveringen.

De productie van ‘How I Met Your Father’ gaat bijna beginnen. Hilary deelde vandaag op haar social media ze ze zojuist de eerste table read heeft afgerond met de cast! Ze laat weten dat de cast echt super goed is en niet kan wachten om aan de slag te gaan. Het is nog niet bekend wanneer de opnames beginnen en wanneer de serie te zien is op de streamingsdienst Hulu.

De productie van de langverwachte spin-off van How I Met Your Mother is vandaag van start gegaan. Executive producer Craig Thomas liet op Twitter weten dat de scenaristen van How I Met Your Father zijn samengekomen.

Als sinds het controversiële einde van How I Met Your Mother in 2014 duiken er regelmatig geruchten op over een spin-off van de populaire serie. In datzelfde jaar is er zelfs een pilotaflevering gemaakt van How I Met Your Dad met Greta Gerwig in de hoofdrol en Meg Ryan als verteller. Discussies tussen de makers en zender CBS over de casting zorgden er echter voor dat de reeks nooit gemaakt en uitgezonden is.

Maar nu, zeven jaar later, is het dan toch eindelijk zover. Streamingdienst Hulu liet vorige maand namelijk weten dat het een nieuwe serie How I Met Your Father heeft besteld. Die reeks zal gemaakt worden door Isaac Aptaker en Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us, Love, Victor). De makers van How I Met Your Mother – Carter Bays en Craig Thomas – zijn als executive producers verbonden aan het project.

Het is die laatste die nu heeft laten weten op Twitter dat de ‘writers room‘ van start is gegaan. “Goede vibes”, schrijf hij daarbij. Het ziet er dus naar uit dat Hulu snel werk wil maken van How I Met Your Father.

Tot nu toe is over de reeks nog niet veel informatie bekend. Wel is geweten dat Hilary Duff de hoofdrol zal spelen. Zij speelt het personage Sophie, die de vrouwelijke versie wordt van Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor). Wie er verder nog te zien zal zijn in How I Met Your Father is niet geweten. Craig Thomas liet wel nog weten dat de sitcom zal opgenomen worden in dezelfde studio als waar het legendarische Cheers is opgenomen.

Hilary is gecast als Sophie in de nieuwe serie ‘How I Met Your Mother’ voor streamingsdienst Hulu. Het is een spin-off van de populaire serie ‘How I Met Your Mother’ die tot 2014 op TV was, sindsdien wordt er al aan deze serie gewerkt. Het is nog niet bekend wanneer de opnames beginnen en waar deze plaats zullen vinden, de originele serie speelde zich af in NYC. Het eerste seizoen zal bestaan uit 2014.

Naar verluid zullen de opnames van de serie plaatsvinden in L.A., iets wat Hilary fijn vind omdat ze dan minder hoeft te reizen en gewoon tijd kan doorbrengen met haar gezin.

The Younger and Lizzie McGuire star is set to produce and headline How I Met Your Father, the long-gestating How I Met Your Mother spinoff, which has received a straight-to-series order at Hulu.

Created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us), the 10-episode offshoot takes place in the near future, as Sophie (played by Duff) tells her son — you guessed it! — the story of how she met his father. The retelling “catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options,” according to the official logline.

Original series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are on board as executive producers.

HIMYF will blend multi- and single-camera elements to give it a similar look and feel to HIMYM. Beyond that, it remains unclear how the new series’ universe will be connected to its predecessor.

A How I Met Your Mother spinoff has been in and out of development since 2014. During HIMYM‘s final season, CBS commissioned a pilot for How I Met Your Dad, starring future Oscar-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig and narrated by rom-com queen Meg Ryan. The pilot was dead on arrival, and the script was eventually leaked. A second attempt at HIMYD was made in 2016, with Aptaker and Berger at the helm, but the project was put on hold due to the early success of This Is Us. The offshoot went back into development the following year, and has at last come to fruition — a full seven years after HIMYM‘s divisive finale.

“Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story: It’s the story of how two writers got lucky enough to make their dream TV show for nine seasons and now get to pass the torch to an inspired new creative team with their own incredible story to tell, the story of How I Met Your Father,” Bays and Thomas said in a joint statement. “We are honored by their passion and vision, and look forward to helping them tell a legendary new story. (Thanks to all the HIMYM fans out there who waited for it.)”

Added Duff, “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie. As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby. Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there!”

Aptaker and Berger also commented on the series pickup, joking: “We hope nobody thinks it’s weird that Bob Saget will be playing old Hilary Duff’s voice.”

Since 2015, Duff has played Kelsey Peters on the TV Land-turned-Paramount+ sitcom Younger, which is currently in its seventh and final season. It is unknown what, if any impact HIMYF will have on the Kelsey-centric spinoff in development at ViacomCBS. Duff was also attached to a revival of her star-making sitcom Lizzie McGuire, but the series was ultimately scrapped by Disney+.
